Final Fantasy Versus 13 will be released for the PlayStation 3. The title will not be a sequel to Final Fantasy 13 but will take place in a new world, with different characters and storyline.
The latin word “Versus” in Final Fantasy Versus 13, means the change of a direction.
The story will revolve around the male protagonist, who is a member of the royal family that has protected family crystals for generations. He protects these crystals from creatures from another world.
In the trailer shown at E3 2006 for Final Fantasy Versus 13, which unfortunately hasn’t been released by Square Enix yet, a cityscape was shown that has been compared to a modern day metropolis. In the center of this cityscape was a tall-towered building, like the equivalent of a castle in Final Fantasy Versus 13, which is where the male protagonist lives.

Anyhoo, he seems like he’s the hero’s friend. ‘Cause the heroes are livly, demtirmin and stupidly sweet, they always have a friend (mainly rival) that is lifeless, bored, handsom and strong (Its usaly features those traits in Anime/Manga)

His name is rumered to be Storm. In contrast to Lightning of FFXIII, ‘Storm’, is more likley to be male.

that name is probably just a rumor though. these games take place in completely different timelines and places, and for these two characters to have a connection like that just seems really unlikely….unless this “Storm” is actually Lightning’s great-great grandpa. but probably not.

well…after watching the trailers, it looked more like lightning’s world was more advanced. versus xiii’s world looked more present day, with the car, and all the soldiers and how they looked compared to the floating islands, the flying robot things and the soldiers’ uniform in lightning’s world.

Well, i dont know about you lot but the New Trailer of our myterious cute(sorry, but he just is!) guy is a very good fighter whos not affraid to get bood on his hands! I think he rocks! And trust me my kind of rock goes futher than hardcore metal!

Pfft. Storm? Yeah right. I thought Lightning was a dumb enough code name for the girl in XII, but if the guys in XII Versus is named Storm, we might as well not buy it.
I think he’s gonna be better than Cloud, as Cloud really isn’t the greatest FF character of all time. Cloud’s kind of dorky compared to this guy.
And judging by the fact that the guys in XII Versus JUST acquired guns and that the main character mainly uses magic and swords, I’d say the world in XII is definitely more advanced.

well we know lightning’s name is just a codename, and we don’t really even know if “storm’s” name is really Storm. they’re not exactly related to weather, more like related to elements. you had cloud and squall, which i guess would be wind. Tidus is like japanese for sun and yuna is related to moon….you get the picture i think.

personally, i agree with yurie and Gregorio. i think this character is way deeper than cloud. i really hope they don’t make him like cloud’s clone. he already looks a bit like him. and if you ask me, cloud probably is’nt a role model for male final fantasy characters(these are my opinions so do not direct a comment towards me concerning my opinions. this also goes with all my other posts.).

well i know for a fact that i will be there til the end. i don’t see square stopping anytime soon, there aren’t any rumors saying this is the final game of the series or anything, so it probably won’t be. final fantasy xx might be a long way off, but by then there’d by like…a helmet you put on and you’ll be inside the game or something. how cool would that be?

the main reason that it’s for the ps3 instead of 360 is because the 360 isn’t nearly as popular in japan as the ps3, and final fantasy generally sells better there than here. plus, final fantasy main titles have been playstation exclusives for 11 years.

well even though i like rpgs the most…there’s a lot more than just one rpg. mass effect, oblivion, and even Call of Duty 4 have rpg aspects to them. you’re right though…the majority of 360 games are fps, and a lot of them have the best online multiplayer capabilities out of the three systems right now. that’s why people like it.

FF Versus is going to be awesome! I dont like this XIII much as Versus….Versus remind me some how FF7 which is my favorite Final Fantasy game that i’ve been played.. it has good story! :)
World maps of FF7 and FF8 was great, but why they don’t do anymore like those maps anymore? Airships were superawesome back in the days :)

a game needs the following to be good( i believe most of you will agree): graphics, gameplay and mechanics, storyline, great music. . .ff games have are very high quality. . .an exception here and there, true, but there good almost all the time. . .and it seems that all the ff13 titles will get all those aspects i mentioned better than just right. . .

Finallllllly, another great ff coming soon. my favorite ff of all time is ff7. i think it was the turning point for the ff series. i also like the old ff3. versus main character looks sick!!! such a badass just like cloud. (tie in my book) i also hope that versus has summons!
also, after reading everyones post i agree with “nobody” completely about storyline and graphics….the story line is key because it keeps the player hooked and wanting more. i have been playing final fantasy since early 90’s starting with ff3, then ff7,ff8,ff9,ffx,ff12 and i think the best storyline was ff7 because of the struggle with cloud himself, the love story between cloud,aries and tiffa, all the summons,septhroth…damn everything haha….. what is everyones favorite??????? and why??

Love the way this new Versus looks. Big FF7 fan and the trailer to this has the same feel as 7 did, dark with deep storylines. Definately drawn to the main character they are showing us, kinda reminds me of Cloud but whose to say what drives this guy? Looking forward to it’s release.
as am i celtrcy. as for favorite final fantasy game, it’d be between 5 and 6 for me. 5 because of it’s awesome story and acquiring of new job classes, and 6 because of the HUGE story it had, i loved it. every character had their own backstory and was important in their own way (cept Gogo, he/she was just cool).

and trickblade, do you honestly think that this character is nothing more than a replica pushover of cloud? because in the trailer, he killed so many soldiers and was invincible; i’ve never seen cloud be invincible. point is, i think this guy deserves a bit more credit.

and based on what I’ve seen of his swordplay, he’d be quite a match for cloud or sephiroth.

i don’t know for sure…but i imagine the crystals in versus playing the same role as the crystals in Seiken Densetsu 3. basically, every castle’s crystal magically protects the kingdom with it’s power. it seems likely i suppose, but only time will tell.
Ya i can see that being the cause for the crystals. Whats your take on the new translations just made saying that their changing storms clothes? I think hes perfect with his look now i dont see the need for a change.
yeah i thought he looked alright too…but perhaps with this upcoming change, his “surprising speech” might be less of a shock. i don’t know.
That is not cloud at all. if u pause the trailer as u see his face look at his “sword” there is a laser sight and a scope on it. cloud des not use a gun. simple as that =[
oh we know it’s not cloud…it’s just that some people here think that he looks like cloud. they were done by the same designer, so that’s not impossible, but i just don’t see it.
i guess it depends at what picture you look at. for example if you compare the close up picture of “storm” with a picture of cloud from the advant children movie, the facial features look incredibly similar, however if you compare the picture of “storm” to a picture of cloud from the ffvii game they look nothing alike.
i get more of a Vincent (from VII) vibe/look than i do Cloud but maybe thats jus me
i suppose it could just be as simple as more realistic facial features that make them look similar. i mean, if you shaved reno’s head bald and cloud’s head bald, they’d look pretty similar too. i agree with cents though, they way “storm’s” eyes change colors reminded me of vincent. they’re both kinda creepy in that aspect.

another reason might be that versus is going to take a different approach. . .more action oriented. . .so it makes sense not to make it a main title. . .to see what the reaction of the public will be. . .if doc was popular enough, may be we would have seen more games like it come around. . .get what i mean?. . .

In all honesty, it’s not in it’s entirety fair to compare cloud to storm. That is the same as comparing Sephiroth to Garland. Cloud was as deep as you wanted him to be, and possessed all the qualities of a sociopath. Kept everything to himself, did things on his own, and so on. He still seems childish? Even after he fragmented his memories together of being is SOLDIER, when it was actually Zach anyway? Overall I do believe that XIII is going to be a good one, but I highly doubt that Cloud and Storm are even remotely comparable. Maybe im biased though, because my love lies with 7…

before crisis is for a mobile phone that came out years ago, way before ff 12 was thought of. its useless to even try to get it unless you can read Japaneses. there is no translated version of the game what so ever. the phone for the game is only sold in japan and expensive. FF 7 Before Crisis game will only be playable in Japan on the Panasonic FOMA P900iv mobile phone.but theres hope because when Agito is released they may give us Before Crisis since its on a mobile phone as well. they always said they were going to release it in the U.S. but never gave us a solid release date.

ok… ive seen the trailer… i believe everyone can agree… FF its an escape from this dormitory lifestyle thats why i play it. I loved FF7 I related to cloud a lot more then squal, zidane, titus, yuna, or Vaan. the main protagonist… theres a lot more then you think the newer games are getting more n more based off of FFIV V, and even VI… FF7 was a romantic story to me and thats why i loved it… it had depth it had things you could laugh at and the newer games cant relate to that… so… let me get this straight… FF13 and FFVersus13 are seperate games… i dont understand one trailer you have an elf looking female whos using a gunblade neat weapon on the other hand you have this quiet, even scared character.. who just seemed lost to me.. in the opening scene his in the back of a car being driven… somethings missing in his life, or a piece of him is missing… theres so much more to this male character then meets the eye… ya know ive read up on he protects the crystal… and maybe hes the last remaining aire or hes the bad guy who knows but someone straigten out this two games or one game with 2 seperate plots idk someone please tell me lol

i believe the storyline in ff7 is much better. but there is ALOT, of gameplay in ff12. it kept me occupied for 373 hours, and thats just to obtain every single item in the game. the yiazmat battle is fucking insane (50,000,000 health only able to hit with a max of 6,999!!!) and ff7 has no real hard battles( only one being ruby weapon, emerald was too easy). so if ya want to be able to “talk” about a game, ff7 is your choice. if you want to “kick the shit out of monsters” in a game, ff12 got it.
and yes, vaan is gay. balthier is cool. penelo is vaans counterpart. ashe and fran give me an erection. ;)

Call me a wierdo, but in my opinion, I wasn’t such a big fan of ffvii, but I just loved the new CCFFVII for the psp, crisis core awsome, but didn’t get the same feel from ffvii, it was good, of course, But I liked the storyline of Crisis Core final fantasy 7 best. For my favorite FF, I’d have to say X! Simply amazing, summons where the best in all the series! And the Blitzball was a nice mini-game!
By the way, in some wierd coincidence on my secondary save-game (Blitzball only, things went kinda bag with my team on my main save) I called Tidus Storm! hehe

thats what i was about to say. the only thief’s i know in final fantasy are Vaan and Zidane from ff9. and ff7 wasn’t a dark games, in a matter of fact, it had a more happy feel to it than most ff titles. Sephiroth made it seem dark but other than that the game was mostly happy go lucky. well thats comparing it to other titles, its still my number 1 on my top 15 list.

first you go to google.com and look up emulators. pick the best one depending on user ratings. then download the ROM’s or in other words “Games”. so look up any game you want then download it. But first MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ***WINZIP***. if you dont have WINZIP it probably wont work. if you don’t have WINZIP look around the internet and see if you can download it from some other site for FREE. don’t be fooled they will TRY TO MAKE YOU PAY FOR IT but you can find it FREE of charge, you just have to do a little more searching. and after you have WINZIP just look up the emulator you downloaded and click the button extract from the menu. after that everything should be pretty easy. you might have to extract the game as well. but for the ps1 emulator i don’t know if it will be the same. but there are sites that give you step by step instructions.

i disagree with the first part of your comment justthinking, i doubt there would be that kind of connection. their physical similarities could be solely because they were designed by the same guy. it’d be pretty farfetched for this character to be a long lost relative of cloud, i think square has better imagination than that.
however, about him being lost and miserable, that i completely agree with you on. in the magazine scans, we see him chillin with his friends having a good time. but in the trailer, the environment is so much darker and violent, and his mood is much more gloomy and solemn. like he’s gone through so much and has a huge weight on his shoulders. plus, you don’t see any sign of his friends. perhaps a terrible fate befell our hero’s entourage? only time will tell.

I played FF11 on the PS2, and it was a really great game. It still is, I suppose. I don’t see why that can’t be put on PS3… And I’ve heard about a Lord of the Rings online PS3 and X-Box 360 release… But it’s not even officially in development yet, and that’s not FF, but hey, it’s online, why not mention it?
First off… I HATE the direction the Square has gone with FF since Enix. This may just be me, but it started a long, slow decline after FF10, and there simply seems to be no pride in FF itself anymore. Square used to crank out their games their way, and if people didn’t like it, tough. Now…

Am I the only one picking up on some corporate bullsh*t here? It seems as graphics have gotten better, Final Fantasy has gotten worse, and people want their video games served with extra guns, blood, and language. RPG’s are practically dying out, and THE role-playing game is changing rapidly into an action-adventure.
I for one couldn’t care less about the amount of blood shown, the number of curse words, targeting demographics, and I F*CKING HATE GUNS. Gunblade? — Cool. Gun? — Not cool. More than one character with a gun? — What the f*ck happened? Am I playing Call of Duty? What happened to a fantasy adventure?
Also, if FF wants to go back to their roots, they’ll need to bring back character development. FF12 saw me giving all my characters swords and setting them to cure automatically, and I half-assed my way through game that had a startling lack of story (although I did enjoy the political viewpoint of what little there was). From the very beginning, FF has always given skill and character development a forefront in their games. From weapon levels of incredibly early games to Jobs (classes, whatever) to getting skills through your summon on FF8, and learning skills through armor on 9, it took time, effort, money… You had to do your part to beat the game. I don’t WANT to be able to get the strongest weapon/skill/spell for all my characters. There SHOULD be a mage, and a healer, and a fighter, and a thief, and all of that… Of course, it shouldn’t always be the same, but FF10 and FF12 have strikingly similar systems… At least 10 took a damn long time to get anywhere. At least 11 saw a return to the Job system… though it would be interesting to see a MMORPG with, say… Learned skills, weapon proficiency, and then allow you to choose a specification later, after you know how to steal and cast cure, then you can be a black mage or whatever you want. I’m just kinda going off on this right now. But lastly…
I miss stories. FF8 was captivating, with all the assassinating and murder and betrayal and lies and evil, while your heros are all split apart, and you’re not sure if they’ll all make it back in one piece… Or when, for that matter. FF9 was exhilarating, discovering a mother/queen as a villain, foes who become friends, Zidane’s history, Vivi’s story… FF10 was all about history and religion… Fighting what everyone taught as right because you know that isn’t how it has to be… And sacrificing love for peace. All of it was so grand. FF12 was… A kid lost his brother… bummer. We learned that instantly. He wants to be a sky pirate. He has a little girlfriend. That captain dude is a good guy after all… A princess falls out of the sky. A sky pirate tries to steal stuff at the same time as you, he has a sidekick. They all have a little bitty bit of story, but that’s about it… He has a twin brother? — Oh. That makes sense.

Also, why did they make it multiplatform, that’s just so stupid. I don’t even have a PS3 yet because I don’t know which one to get out of the 40GB, 60GB, or 80GB. well first of all the only reason their names are lightning, storm, cloud and all related to weather is because tetsuya nomoru was the main director for those final fantasy games and thats just how hes been making all his characters names related to weather. In an interview he did say that he wants to stop just using weather related names so storm might change by the time final fantasy versus 13 comes out.
