The Final Fantasy 13 trailer begins with a speeding train going along a raised track above the ground.
Inside the train, a number of figures are shown dressed in black and blue clothing. There are also soldiers around carrying guns with them. The speeding train goes into a dark tunnel, crashes into a barrier on the track and explodes.
The female protagonist can then be seen inside the train, fighting off soldiers with two guns. She seems to be able to move around in mid-air in this fight due to a blue light which appears around her from time to time.
Soon after, actual battle gameplay is shown. The female protagonist is fighting countless amounts of enemies with her gun weapon. During the battle, she seems to “freeze” a large group of enemies that have surrounded her. She jumps over them to attack another enemy behind the group, turns back around to the group and casts Fire magic on them while they are still “frozen”.
Towards the end of this footage, she transforms her gun weapon into a sword and continues fighting.
Next the female protagonist is walking through a kind of forest area, where she stops in her tracks and seems to be looking at something above her.
In different, more darker surroundings, a large creature is seen floating downwards in the direction of the female protagonist. With the blue light around her again, she jumps up and lands on a platform with the large creature now facing her. She again transforms her gun weapon into a sword and stands in a “fighting” position.
The trailer then ends with the Final Fantasy 13 logo.

On the trailer, ‘Lightning’ has pretty much shown she is more than capable of looking after herself. Its nice to see, for a change, a female with attitude, serious in battle and not that feminin. I mean do all females have to flaughnt nealy all of there flesh to noticed. She’s obviously strong! Its great to have a heroine with power! This woman, if she was real, would be a great role-modle!
She looks like a cross between Cloud(FFVIII), Ashe(FFXII) and Riku(KH,CoM,II)
i wouldn’t mind having the main protagonist being female. actually, it is pretty cool. it’s hot. seriously though, pretty much whenever i had a choice, i’d use the female characters more than the male characters. final fantasy 6 especially…terra and celes were my main powerhouses throughout the game. i used ashe just as much as vaan in 12 also.
ok gregorio… It’s okay to say it’s cool to have a female protagonist, but when you start thinking game characters are hot, you’ve crossed the freaking line.

I’m super stoked for this game. I honestly believe that this will be the game that will prove that Square Enix can produce great Final Fantasties like Squaresoft. Square Enix’s game publications (in my opinion) have been hit and miss and miss again. Final Fantasy 13 (as well as Versus 13) will renew my faith in this company. I just cannot wait till this game come out.

well, alot of girls have started to like rpg games, since they started to play mmorpgs(like final fantasy 11), it would be interesting to let the girls have a main character , and so it is in ff12 you can chance your main character in game every time as you like.
i tell this because of my sister, she liked ff 8 alot, but she was angry because you could not use Rinoa, and final fantasy x-2 is not so cool as we thought.

oh…well rinoa is kinda useful…for healing and stuff. that’s about it. so i don’t really know why you’d use her.
i found myself using her just to find like hidden dialogue between her and zidane really.
I bet male characters are much best protagonist than female because i noticed that almost all the Final Fantasy game is about a love story of a 2 people as you can see male also do the best part….anyway it does’nt matter as long it have awesome!!! fighting cinematic sequences and great love story like FFVIII and much harder challenges in the game (like the challenges in the FFX you know wat i mean..) Im desperatly looking forward to it!!!!!

I Think its a Shame that Yuna in 10-2 Chose to dress like that. Espesaly Rikku, She was like only wearing her underwear! The Garmet Grids mise well have been calle the Under-Garemet Grid.
Besides that, i like this Character. Theres finally a character (Besides Ashe and Celes) that will get her hands dirty.

the thing that 12 was missing was a truly compelling story. i mean it had a pretty good one…but i wasn’t drawn into it like i was with X or VI. the story behind xiii already seems cooler than xii’s story.

I didn’t really care for 12’s storyline I just didn’t reallty get drawn into it. None of the characters seemed to really interact with eachother. Well i guess i mean that they didn’t really seem to have any real bonding in the game like in all the other FF’s.
I like a story where the characters actually talk more to eachother and don’t talk in a monotone the whole game.(**cough**Vaan)

ok for one. there aren’t that many girls who play rpg games. for two. i never played with the girls on the final fantasy games. and i guess relationships in ff are ok. if it follows a good storyline then yes. they need to create a game and base it on the same concepts as ff7 and ff8. those games were the best ones. 9 and 10 were good to but can’t compete with 7 or 8.

and david, i don’t know your story, but if you want to get away from saki’s family, or whatever, you could probably call Pace or something. they’re expensive, but if you use em everyday, it’s a good deal.

because that makes no sense at all. releasing a demo the same week as the actual game kinda makes releasing a demo pointless. if they wanted to increase the hype, which im sure they do, it would be much more strategic to release a demo months before the game.

Her weapon reminds me of squalls (ff8) gunblade only i dont think his acted as a gun at all did it it??? I’m really excited about this charcter shes a really strong female like yuna(ffx) who was my fav of all the female ff charcters.
actually…all the gunblade did was send really painful vibrations through the sword to increase attack power…it doesn’t use bullets or anything.

I found this web and found it has alot of pictures including the newer versions of Summons. If i was there manager, i would have thought that since it has Carbuncle in i would think of it as a sequel of FF-VIII
If you think about i would say its a sequal as most of the characters have the same weapons as VIII e.g. Selphie
i can promise you it’s not, despite some similarities (which are to be expected since the character designer is the same for both games), the stories have absolutely nothing in common. also, carbuncle was in quite a few other games besides VIII.
as for the game being on ps2, the only benefit to that would be buying a $50 games as opposed to a $60 game. they would have to reprogram and “dumb down” everything so that the game would even play on the ps2, and that’d basically be making an entirely new game. so even if it were to be released on ps2, which would also be a waste of money on square’s part, we would see it released probably a year after the ps3 version. by then, nobody would need it. in short, i disagree.

ffXII was a good game. I beat it, along with half the other ff games. But to be honest, I cannot remember a single character name off the top of my head from that game, but I can remember almost every other character name from every other ff I’ve played. Just goes to show what this new squenix has done to the story/character development and character richness/uniqueness. I hope they can pull through and make a memorable game this time.
from all the info and hype that this game is getting…if squenix completely stopped production and never released the game, it’d probably still be a more memorable game.

they might pull out a remake for ff7…but when they do, that’ll probably mark the end of the ff7 franchise. course that game and its spinoffs have gotten the company so much money, they might as well remake it. i suppose it will happen someday.
they should remake ff7 with better graphics maybe some new materia but thats all they should do with it
meh…they probably will. it’s in the back of nearly every final fantasy fan’s mind, and everyone at square knows we want it…especially after talking about it. a lot of the big names that were around during those talks, however, are no longer there anymore, or won’t be shortly. so if they do remake it, there’s gonna be a completely different team working on it. one thing they should do though if they do remake it is use all of the status ailments. only about half of them were in the game.
I cant wait for 13 to come out! I’ve beaten 7, 10 and 10-2 and I’ve gotten to the end of all of them but the 2nd one.

But if I had to pick my favs in order from favorite to least, it would be this::::
7* - Cause of the originality and storyline
9* - Characters were fun and the colors and battle system was cool
8* - The summon system and storyline was good
10* - Graphics were very good, story line was good, (its about time they got voice acting into the mix)
10-2* - having only 3 characters bummed me out, but graphs were good and story was decent
12* - (Just an opinion but this game to me was a disappointment to me, just cause i felt like when i beat it it was really uncompleted in a way, the story was confusing, and boring, the graphics were amazing, characters were just OK to me, and the espers were cool to look at but no personality.
P.S 1-6 doesn’t count for me LOL. thats just me though

that’s pretty cool trey. not many people here can claim to have beaten all of them. i kinda thought 11 was pretty open ended, and thus unbeatable. unless you’ve done everything possible, which is thoroughly impressive.
Why do you have to keep changing the battle system?
You are trying to find a way to master the perfect battle system while you already had that….you have completly ruined the series.

what gregorio just said is true. a real fan will adapt rather than reject. at the very least, the fan will give it a try and attempt to like it.
a real fan would also attribute the greatness of final fantasy to more than just the battle system. the soundtrack, the memorable characters, enemies, storyline, dialogue and many other smaller but important inclusions in the series.
-No hard feelings- But I do agree with Gregorio- The main reason I love ff7 so much is because of the game’s strange attraction that lures it’s game viewers in- Once in a while I would play the ff7 -aeris-piano-version//theme song in my head and for some strange reason it doesn’t bother me at all but can be quit relaxing- especially if your having a bad day-moody or something and it’s beautiful being able to play it yourself-
on the other hand, you’ve got your Jenova Absolute and Those Who Fight Further that rock hard and get you pumped for something good. also, they’re good to listen to when you’re driving around, skipping school.
alittle off topic but you really really like this thread ay gregorio? and back on topic with ff13 and ffvs13 are the battlesystems gonna be the same? i know its probably a dumb question and even if not theres probably no one that can answer it that is at liberty to do so but all the same ide like to know.
what makes you say that? i like this whole site. as for the battle systems, the two games are going to be pretty different.
For all threads, but posted on this one. A couple cents:
1) Lulu was hot, video game or not. Busty, moody, and darkly sultry.
2) FF8 was the best.
3) FF12 largely sucked. I really tried to like it … I DID. I swear. But it just felt like a well-done knock-off of FF, which is still well below the usual FF standard. If you like it, though, then I’m glad. I wish I had been able to enjoy MY 60 bucks that much.
4) Real-time battle in Final Fantasy sucks. It limits thoughtful strategy against tough bosses. Gambits required too much maintenance for the very-low level of coolness they contributed to the game.
5) Summon characters: keep the majority for single-turn power strikes, one or two for support, and maybe one (like Yojimbo in 10) primarily to absorb damage when your party needs it. Having a summon creature replace the entire party to manually fight sucks. A summon is much cooler as an AUGMENTATION for the party, not as a replacement (again, except as a defensive thing).
6) The gunblade was dope. So was 4X Strike from FF7.
7) The battle system in FF13 looks interesting. Stop freaking out about it. But hopefully it’s less close to real-time than it might have appeared.
8) Random battles are the way to go. Maybe just have a low- or no-encounter ability very soon in the game, and then you can roam freely when you don’t want to fight. This would even out because you’d still have to voluntarily enter many battles for the experience you need. Landmark battles, of course—against bosses, at points in the storyline, against guardians of certain places, and against possessors of powerful or key items—would still be mandatory. Nothing was less Final-Fantasy-like to me than turning a corner in 12 and seeing a single bat flapping my way. Lame.
9) The trailer for FF13 looks awesome.
10) Okay, now it’s an even ten.
i’m so glad you put that 10 there. i was thinking “why the hell couldn’t he come up with one more thing to say” and you did. well done.
i also agree with number 9…kinda. mostly what you said about having a low- or no-encounter ability. something like that would need to be used with caution though. otherwise you’d get to a storyline enemy and be pwned straight to GAME OVER world. or hell. still, it’d be pretty nice to have for all those random encounters when you’re trying to get from place to place.
i agree with what Bazoon said. everything except for 2) FF8 was the best. 7 or 9 was the best.hard to compare because i have only beaten 7 and for some stupid reason my ps3 memory card adapter wont read my ps1 files. oh and everyone is going to find this funny, i just found out that you have to hit the Ps button in the middle of the controller to tell the system to check eternal memory card slot 1. i didn’t have to do that with my ps2 games. i feel so stupid because for the past YEAR AND A HALF i have not been able to finish FF 8 and 9. and now i just put in FF8 and am now stuck in this huge fucking city trying to find and item shop and a save point before my seed level drops and my cash earnings start to drop. awesome. and i would play FF9 but i remember that im at this supper hard boss without and elixirs and ethers. also awesome.
Well back to FFXIII… Im just really happy that from what ive seen, the FNC games all have that Final Fantasy feel to them you know? One of the main things that bothered me about 12 ( theres more than one lol) was that it just felt like a completely different series to me. Not too bad, but not really Final Fantasy.
i can kind of understand what everyone means when they say that 12 didn’t have that “final fantasy feel” to it. but what want to know is this: what exactly gives final fantasy that “final fantasy feel?”

hard to say really, ff12 was just too perfect. every corner you went was the exact same thing you know, in the previous final fantasy games there environments were fantasy like but easy to believe. like now for example im playing through ff 8 and its spectacular. theres citys that have torn apart towns with trash on the floor and rust on buildings. but in 12 everything is too perfect. its perfect to the point were noyhing seems real. Low Town was just as clean as the city above it. beaches and sea shores didnt even have a drop of trash in them even when the locals were complaining about all the litter in the water. under water sewer passages were somehow clean enough to eat off of. to me Enix was trying to show of graphics, thats the only thing i can think of of. i mean seriously theres a war going around between super power countrys and crap like that when no town or village you reach is in ruins. not even a scrach on any wall. older FF games were unbeleviably Believable. they had an overwellming amount of detail done in every corner. but not in 12. and please dont get me started on the locals and the characters that you meet. characters were talking as if they had grammer check built into there brains (you know, that whole perfect speach thing ). at least in other games they at least used some form of slang to give each character personality. i would type more but i now your tireed of reading this.
idk… i didnt like 12… well i do but… wtf too much shit to do… ff8 was great… sidequests were fun, ff9 was to easy to beat ff7 was just awesome wish the graphics were better a) squalls the man b) id use a gunblade if i could cause it seems real enough to make one and c) tifas hot… idk i like the new enviroment for ffv13 city scape like our time… they should make a roleplaying game thast real real… like if you get hit your arm falls off… no way of putting it back on lmao

“final fantasy feel” the only think that reminds Fanal Fantasy in FF12 is the airships, their names are the summons of the FFs(Shiva etc).

Well let me start off by saying that i really hate u gregorio for putting that damn question in my head. After taking sum time to think i could only say that there are to many different aspects to look at to say what gives FF that FF feel….. But i would say the story means the most for that FF feel. Its the story that gets u involved with the charecters, enviroment and ”feel”. And for me a FF story includes good, bad, love, fear, life, death, strength, weakness, victory and loss. Even when keeping their games fantasy based your almost always able to compare and relate. So theres ”My 2 Cents” on that headache of a question!!! Agree/Disagree idc jus state your opinion

to me, that final fantasy feel is simply a good quality rpg with the same staples as all the other final fantasies. (chocobos, spells, weapons, recurring characters etc. etc.). as such, i believe that all of the final fantasies (except 2) have a compelling story, gripping soundtrack, intense battle system, and impressive new environments.
you know…something like that. a fun game.

Um..what? Thousands of games and movies released in the past 10 years have focused entirely on ridiculously strong, NINJA WOMEN accompanied by feminine men who can’t fend for them self, gender role-switching has been extremely popular for years. It’s getting ridiculous with horrible movies like Ultraviolet and the RE failures, as well as game after game with combat bitches throwing lame “witty banter” about and looking down on everyone.

What gives Final Fantasy it’s distinctive flavor is what makes few RPG titles great:
*Simple characters you either want to love and hate–FF tends likes to recycle.
*Unique soundtrack–Some very intimate themes have been created for FF characters.
*Visuals–As good as the characters look the worldscapes were just as stunning. Fully rendered scenes and movies within the games were the treat! Many RPGs couldn’t compete with the quality of rendering in FF7 and FFX! They look even more beautiful on my PS3 and HDTV despite being made nearly a decade ago!
Given the power of the PS3 and the ability to render realistic closeups–I’m hoping to see our heroin’s every grotesque hair follicle and blemish especially when there is a romantic scene (ie FFX–Tidus&Yuna)!

i don’t know what the fuck all that shit was about but all i can tell you is that ff13 and verses 13 take place in the same world but they strongly have there own story and don’t cross between each others world at all. confusing isn’t it . don’t worry though, it only means that you are human. or are you??? llololollol.
from what i’ve seen 13 is lead by “lightning” while Verses is lead by a group of gang banging guys. like i said, that’s from what i’ve seen out of the clips and pics. It was right before my birthday when i first glimpsed the FF series. A tv commercial for FFX played, and then i IMMEDIATLY started to beg for a PS2 and just one game. I played that game, shot through as fast as i could, got insanly frustrated at the random battles while i just wanted to explore. Cringed when i stepped out of a city and my screen broke to a slow paced must hit attack to attack, really hate that style of battle. Turn based = Slow based. The story was gripping, boss battles hard, or just plain easy. I hated running into a battle randomly after three on screen steps of my character. So the mihen high road took forever, thankgosh for flee, i just skipped over fights most of the way. Since i had speed walked my way up and then couldnt get passed seymour in one area. Went over to my friends and watch him beat the game. I cried learning Tidus’s fate. And boy was i happy that they were going to make a sequel and tie up the games loose ends. I wont mention how embarrased i was when i got a few minutes in after the initial cutscene and noticed the girls were really going to mostly be wearing bras and underwear around the game. Needless to say i didnt get very far before i was just disgusted with the retarded dialogue, and i just found the ending online to watch the reunion. I found myself lost in other games, telling myself another FF will emerge eventually. FFX12! Now I personally loved realtime enemies, the old screen breaking to three beasts that poof onto your screen again and again was really annoying. The story was ok, i couldnt figure out much background to the characters, loose ends on the char dev it seemed. and omg i agree vaan was so mundane and repitious. I might be just a dumb unpayingattentiongirl but it took me a looong time to figure out who was narrating from his mems. I liked the idea of gambits. I had to turn them off for some boss fights. and i think sidequests that are way abundant are good for people with short attention spans. I remember getting lost though in where the game wanted me to go to get on with the story in a few places. I introduced my older sister to this game last year and it sucks that there is like 4-6year gaps in the release dates now for the main console NEW storyline games. I dont want to buy little handhelds for FF. I want it on a big screen where the story and good voiceacting will pull me in. not a story like 12’s. For some reason i just couldnt see how a city like rabanastre could be taken over without a scratch. and mabye i might get lost in it but you cutscreen HUGE cities then give me three allyways and im supposed to be happy? noo i want to get lost and have to refer to my map. rabanastre was ok it took some time for me to be able to get used to it. and loved the moogle ports. Why cant things be destroyed. fixed? then destroyed again? Side questing was hunts, not to much fun for me personally. I agree tho that people need more than main storyline if you can fit it in. Make it to where when you have a street urchin, a minigame is where you steal goods/money and if you do the little urchins get food. They go hungry then that affects how npc’s view you. I might be able to conform back to turn based, but the realtime i loved. i got to see the scenery. not the wallpaper background of me fighting on land when i was really standing on a bridge. Please no random battles. Please. Or make it to where i can turn them off but i dislike the whole idea of random battles.

euh ashly, i think you have to much time on ur hands. i like those turn based fights , thats why i liked the enchanted arms game. my favorite ff is ff8, and i would like to see more of that in other ff’s. turn based fighting equals ff, thats how they became famous, so why change. personaly i think ff12 was a bit lame. but i do agree that i want to get lost to in bigger city’s . excuse my french , but i am from belgium
once you make an non turned based game it becomes less attractive in terms of ff games. Lets be real for a second, the fact that you could see your enemy’s on screen meant that the world ( everything around you, buildings, places to explore ect.) is basically limited. when you played older ff games your screen would begin to change an you would enter a random battle, that means that if you take that away like in final fuck-up 12, everything around you is less attractive. If you see a strong enemy somewhere you wont go anywhere near it because the fights are to long and on top of that you might loose and have to walk your ass back the way you came just to go through more time consuming bull shit. its like you see places to explore but its not that interesting at all. at least in turn based fights you get to explore places with random enemy’s (which I really don’t see the problem with) and not have to think about dumb shit happening. and besides in 12 you can try to run all you want but the enemy’s still hit you everywhere you go., even if you leave the room and go into a different room that has been loaded up and everything and they can totally fallow you. There is no fucking pattern to boss fights or anything, I got so damn tired of healing everybody because the bosses didn’t really have a time gauge. sometimes they only attack once and sometimes they attack everyone like 9 times in one blow. its all non final fantasy bullshit. I would rather you call it a different game than actually call it final fantasy 12. I had way more fun in old3er ff games. I think 12 is as about as bad as ff 2. The only reason its scored high in reviews and shit is because it ff. I’m a ff fan and everything but I wont stick up for Enix in making a bad game. and there is more to say but I know that no one wants to read all of this. llol.

Just happened to find this on a google search, and yes “your mother” and “fingerbang” seem to be the same person, its easy to tell.
1) No usage of capitals at all in any comments

In my opinion versus looks better. It seems darker and deeper, much like ff7 was. 13 almost looks like a copy of 12 in my opinion. Hopefully it won’t be though.

I agree. I get the idea of trying to take advantage of a lot of the technology of today in order to create a richer environment, and it conveniently lets you travel the world. But FF6, arguably the best Final Fantasy ever (could you imagine a remake with updated graphics…(hint, hint SquareEnix), dealt with a society that had been knocked back technologically to the Iron Age. And it was great. FF7-FF12 have dealt with modern technologies even future technologies… it wouldn’t hurt to have a final fantasy take a step back in time again. What I’m really wondering is what culture they will pull this final fantasy from. Examples. FF6- very European. FF7 very American. FFX very Japanese. FF12- no storyline so it doesn’t matter. FF13- any guesses?

But seriously, it wasn’t that ff7 was devoid of technology, rather, that it had technology and magic in a perfect medium. It also blended storyline elements perfectly. Lets not forget that a FF rpg is first and foremost, storyline driven. It isn’t like oblivion because it doesn’t rely on it’s gameplay elements to hook you. It relys on it’s story telling.

FF12 didn’t make since in terms of technology and magic. They were using High tech airships and stuff but had to resort to bows and arrows in battle. Your telling me that guns and High tech weapons weren’t invented yet, and I know what your going to say “But Baltheir had a gun”, true but it was super primitive. It only shot once as if they could invent automatic guns or something, and It looked exactly like a old school musket or something. That’s completely stupid. That’s like me having a Ferrari with a brake system like the Flintstones. completely Idiotic. They were being stupid with the War thing as well. Yeah I totally have this bad ass airship custom made by NASA and everything but watch as I drop my soldiers of in the middle of the battle field wearing Gladiator armor that has to be heavy and inappropriate as hell, but that’s not all, lets give them swords and shields and crap. Its completely unbelievable and stupid. At least in FF7 and the others they did shit right. If you broke into a fortress or an airship or something at least they fought with machines, guns, explosives and crap, ya know stuff that actually matched the time period of the fight and place. and if they did use some kind of barbaric weapon they weren’t human or they have been infected with an aliens DNA (Jenova cells) so it totally makes since. But no, not in 12 lets just make everything look stupid and unbelievably inappropriate. You know what, I going to rob a bank just to prove my point. I’m totally going to run up to Fort Knox with a sword and shield wearing 300 pound armor and you know what, I’m going to make it out O.K. i personally think that dirge of cerberus and crisis core were the best games to date and final fantasy 13 looks like it has some potential in kicking ass in the video game industry
the entire feel of the scenery in dirge of cerberus was completely fitting with the main character and his problems and also the way you had to play crisis core was phenomenal just for the fact that it almost forced you to play more and more and explore every region to make the game progress. and the gameplay in dirge of cerberus was almost exactly like that of devil may cry 4, which is also a huge favorite
the mix of guns and swordplay, all the while including some sort of demonic powers along with hidden missions and enduring chapters

dirge of cerberus did take a completely different path, it was basically an experiment on square’s part. it’s in the same category as X-2, because it was so much different than its predecessors that noone really knew how fans would react. some people like it, but many more didn’t, mainly because of how repetitive the gameplay got. one thing you can be sure of though is that lovers and haters of DoC alike will find something good in xiii

i would not only agree, but i would dare to say i demand you to give it a second try. Kingdom Hearts is my absolute favorite series in all of Gaming. I love it. I was actually kinda pumped when i found out square and disney teamed up, i had no idea what to expect. but it’s definitely not a game just for kids. it’s got such a compelling story that, i didn’t even realize i had spent 10 hours on it until i had to go to sleep.
if you do get through the first one, and you think “yeah, it was alright,” i implore you to give Kingdom Hearts 2 a try. it is wayyyy better than the first one, but may be hard to understand without knowing the basis for kh.

i was really happy with the old games, new games, not so much but job well done.
final fantasy 7 was amazing because they made everything flow, with a compelling story that pretty much anyone could go along with. It had the futuristic part (Midgar) and the medievil parts (pretty much everywhere else. :P )
